Ah, okay, that is fair. Reading elsewhere earlier, it seems he pleaded down to voluntary manslaughter, which I think carries sentencing limits. I don’t know the details of the case, but the prosecutors must have felt they couldn’t get him on a murder charge. 

I totally get that notion, but my idea of fun thought exercises tend not to be so pragmatic. Plus I don’t think that “Well it’ll never happen, so why not aim lower to start”is the best way to start a negotiation process.

I think any discussions we, as laypersons and fans, have about the dynamics of contract negotiations we are not party to, and that don’t benefit us in any real material way, are frivolous, time-wasting exercises in general, right?
