Agreed. It would suck to be in the 10%. That said, it would also suck to get a million dollar verdict against you because the jury was 90% sure. And this happens, as it should, all of the time.

I agree with all of this although I have no idea if the Dodgers spoke to the maid. Actually, I have to think they did. If they did not and just did it based on the hotel calling, it is hard to believe that would be enough to release the guy.

People are convicted of rape WITHOUT a second source. He said/she said convictions. Happens all of the time. So, no a second source is not needed. If journalist have credible allegations they should report those allegations and name names.What standard should they use? More likely than not. It is the civil standard and the appropriate one here. If they are 90% right, as you say, that is plenty good. 

Actually no. If the paper believes that it is more likely than not that the offense occurred — and I assume they did or they would not have written the article — that is more than enough to name the suspected offender.
