It’s cool. It just felt particularly egregious since the study of gender tends to reside in the humanities.

Did you really have to go for the liberal arts jab?
I’m a writer, dear. I’ve sneezed with more effort than it takes to type a <500 word post. I have devoted more effort to topics like whether or not R2D2 can climb up stairs. Please don’t assume my bothering to actually explain my opinion at length means this is my pet cause. Gun ownership is my pet cause.
Ugh!
As has already been pointed out, while this might seem like a good move to reduce gender stereotypes... it’s really just going to make shopping more difficult.
Yeah, anything to make shopping harder! Real progress!
I’m a guy who considers himself a feminist, and sincerely don’t understand why having a boy/girl filter is problematic.
Perhaps Monolith is being dodgy on this on purpose to keep some parts of the game a mystery. In the age where every little game secret can be found within hours or days of a games release, having a mystery like this, while at times can be infuriating, it also adds challenge and mystique to the game.

Sounds interesting. Nice to see a game that builds horror through something other than jump scares. A 21 hour length is pretty impressive.
Yes, all of the other reviews are invalid because they didn't wait an extra week to grind the same shit over and over again in order to do a raid mission that maybe 3% of the game's total population will ever actually complete.
I refuse to get on this treadmill. The beta was downright depressing.
Few things are missing:
1. Forgetable run of the mill symphony orchestra soundtrack
I would say characters matter more than story. Your story can be as cliché as possible, but if the characters are fun, interesting, layered and "real", then your audience will swallow it up. On the other hand, even if your movie has the best story ever written, if your chara ter are annoying cardboard cutouts, you…
Alpha Centauri was 'just a reskin' of Civ II. It's also the best strategy game ever made. Atmosphere matters a lot, and if Beyond Earth can replicate the magic of it's predecessor, then it'll be well worth the price.
You say this like it's a bad thing.
The biggest takeaway SHOULD be that the story matters just as much as the talent, action and visuals. But I'm sure those in charge of other properties will simply add talking animals, vegetation a quirky soundtrack or maybe double down on grimdarkserious and wonder why they can't have nice things.
I want BOI: Rebirth more
Ha, I can see it coming bundled with a wireless adapter akin to Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green except instead it's a wired 56k modem. And we'd love it. Because 90s :).
