I think you misunderstood the point being made. Which was that the Golf/GTI has not been gutted by the cost cutting and Americanizing of the other VW nameplates. As such, it has retained the *relative* upmarket premium/european style that the Passat, Tiguan, and Jetta have lost to some degree.

I should have specified... the automatic** equipped ST is not what I would consider reliable. I considered one a few years ago, but when speaking with the mechanics at our sister Ford dealer in the auto group I worked for, I was highly advised against getting one.

Ignoring the fact that someone up there is trying to peddle the Focus ST as “reliable”..... how about a Honda Fit?
