Oh yeah, he totally picked her at the gas station. It still could have been convenience ("it's the apocalypse, you'll do") but it was premeditated.

So as a woman who saw this movie alone at night I can tell you that I definitely had both my keys and my cell phone out while walking to my car after the film. Goodman caused my Woman's Fear Radar to be on high alert.
My immediate reaction is that I liked that it was both "Yes, he's a creep" and "Yes, there's been an attack". I don't think anyone who would make that solid of a bunker for paranoia purposes (and I think he made the bunker due to his paranoia, not due to his creepiness which was probably his extreme reaction to his…
Having read Gillian Anderson speak about the network's sexist actions during the making of X-Files, I wonder how much of that spiritual sequel is by accident or through Anderson's efforts alone.
I think that's part of the problem with selling a movie. So, this got sold as the horror/ crazy cannibal story and other people made copycat films of what they thought sold the movie. But that's not the important part. The creepy atmosphere, the smartly subtle critique of the male gaze, and the "show not tell" of a…
Yes. 100% agreed. It's the only film I've seen that gets the male gaze right.
Silence of the Lambs is one of the few movies to get objectification right. What it feels like to enter a room and feel all the eyes judging. I'm almost glad that the Hannibal portion of the movie are so over exposed because it makes the rest of the movie this great surprise.
One of my favorite moments is the interaction with Mark Wahlberg and the series of Will Ferrell/ Mark Wahlberg films it spawned.
It is odd that no one understands consensus voting. Like a large group of older people are going to magically pick the most edgy film available.
Also Steve Martin (after Michael Moore won for Bowling for Columbine): "The atmosphere backstage is so friendly. I just saw some Teamsters helping Michael Moore into the trunk of his limo."
I am of the opinion that Gwyneth Paltrow gets an unnecessary level of crap for minor offenses and she's translated that into a number of well-played unlikable women (Sydney/Hard Eight, Two Lovers, Contagion, etc)
I really hope Neil Patrick Harris gets another shot at hosting the Oscars someday (even though I doubt he'd do it again). I think he got railroaded by the "the Oscars are different" mentality instead of going for it like he does at the Tonys.
When Jon Stewart hosted the first time there was a montage of Hollywood issue movies that was supposed to show how thoughtful and forward-thinking Hollywood was. When the montage ended Jon Stewart said something along the lines of "And none of those things were a problem ever again." It was the right balance of the…
See, the religion aspect of the film is what makes me unsure about the film. All of them failed in their religious convictions: the father lied, the mother's grief made her vulnerable, the son has lust, the two youngest were just in league with the devil goat. Up until the daughter called Black Phillip she was the…
Agreed. *SPOILERS BELOW*
I haven't read The Haunting of Hill House but the film version is one of the best black and white horror films. Just by his account of the book it seems like a faithful adaptation and also plays up the "is this happening or is she crazy?" aspect nicely.
Do you actually ship the desk or are you just pointing to things in the room?

I wonder about how the CW of all places ended up with the best child show of the modern Battlestar Galactica as well.
Yeah, I'm already seeing critics on twitter wishing they had more than a couple of hours to digest the film before writing their review.
