It doesn’t make any sense. Do they also realize that marriage essentially was a sales contract?

It is such a moot argument and I wish people would so stupidly and ignorantly think it is a valid one. It drives me nuts. Somebody could be the nicest person ever....and still make decisions that in our system serve to oppress others directly. I know somebody who really is a super nice person if you meet her in her

Basically, what I got from this: the commenter you answered to lives a rather privileged life and doesn’t give a shit about women who weren’t that lucky.

I do happen to know quite a lot young women from well-off families who have no qualms about regularly stealing whether it’s clothes or groceries or forging train tickets. One told me that back in the day her grandmother used to go into shoe stores and just put a new pair of the same model on her feet and leave the old

Hope you don’t mind asking but out of personal interest: what is your family history and how does it date back? How did your family end up in this place?

This is not contributing anything worthwhile but it still makes me giggle. Shortly after Zinn died, Amy Goodman was doing a feature on him interviewing Noam Chomsky. After a short break she cut back to Chomsky with “We’re speaking to Noam Chomsky, who is still with us, about the legacy of Howard Zinn.” I too, thought,

Ha. I’m not a native speaker and I have wondered for YEARS wher the “use to” came from. I always thought it must be some quirk of the English language I didn’t understand!! So it IS wrong. But it is so obviously wrong. I still don’t understand how and why that can happen.

All I can tell them: I am German. Seriously, I don’t get how you can feel anything but shame about your past (they, in this case) and instead of being ashamed and trying to repent you.....want to keep that flag? WHAT?!

“Welp, this explains Leanne’s ability to speak German to Poussey out in the yard.”

Yes, it seems autobiographical. I’d super be happy to hear that it’s supposed to be the opposite of what it seems like but I wouldn’t say country music and a song like that really works well within that concept. I have a really hard time believing that those lyrics are supposed to be subverting the concept. It sounds

No. I wasn’t done actually. I was going to watch an episode per week. But thanks to my lack of self-discipline I now know exactly what I’m going to be watching.

That song is awful. There is nothing ambigious whatsoever about those lyrics. Those are friendship ending lyrics. Somebody who is putting lyrics like that in a song must have talked about that before. So it seems Lambert is ok with that. Which in turn means I’m not ok with Lambert.

I haven’t looked up their lyrics yet, but I imagine some feisty fun. I cannot imagine that Presley’s right wing lyrics like “now daddy can’t get his pension or Social Security/worked thirty damn years in a coal mine feeding welfare families” are ironic.

I love her. I’m not American. I do listen a lot to alt. country and Americana with a decidedly left wing streak but I have no idea what is current. I was listening to an 8tracks playlist with a Brandy Clark and Kacey Musgraves tag and was all ready to discover all kinds of great similar artists and then it played me a

Thank you! Ooh that typo: of course I meant “your”. I was asking since it looked like Aubrey at the guitar and I got all giddy - I want them to give her more material.

Not in Europe? To be fair, I got scolded today because I forgot and wondered for a moment if Denmark had a royal family watching the news.

You’re fourth song is copyright blocked for me - what is it?

This is completely unrelated but to your mom NOT getting in that car. The other month I found myself stranded at a train station at night and a nice woman took me home and let me sleep on her couch. She was super nice and I was pretty damn sure she was just really nice but I have read a great deal about such things

Yes, but I still don’t understand the comments here. Normally, Jezebel comments are all about sex positivity and how prostitution is the most amazing tool of empowered choice or something. So what is your fucking problem? I happen to be from a rich, industrial nation in which prostitution is legal and turns out it is

Granted, I don’t think I ever had homemade Americanc cake, just store bought but I usually agreed with the other Germans that American cake is mostly overwhelmingly too sweet (and I have a super sweet tooth!) so much so that we would scratch off icing when given cupcakes (on cupcakes: I just saw a German bakery label
