No problem, and same to you!
Good point - they’re typically designed to protect ankles in an accident and minimize the chance of breaking (the sport- and supermoto-style boots, the other types I’ve looked at don’t provide ankle support beyond what normal work boots provide.
Yep, gear has always been a must for me. I saw picture after picture of people that had been involved in motorcycle accidents, that’s why I made sure I had the gear before I even started it up.
The Teknic held up despite the fact I was bearing up about 180 lbs of additional weight while I was sliding. Absolutely I’d trust a $75.00 jacket as I’m sliding down the road! And I did trust that jacket, and it saved my skin in that accident. You can shoot down the idea all you want - while I was moving at 25 mph…
Well, hmmmm....on tonight’s episode of, “Why get a 2016 Camaro 1LT when you could have this instead,” we shop for cars in a price range of $30k!
Scorpion and Bell would be the only two brands I’d go for at a lower price point. I bought a Bilt (which is what I use now) - I can’t stand it, but haven’t looked into replacing it yet. All true points. I tend to cross-shop websites, and look at what the reviews say. I also tend to check gear out at the dealerships and fit check what I want to buy before getting it online anywhere. One instance, I ordered a nice-looking pair of gloves, those damned things hurt when I wore them.
I started with Scorpion when I started riding in 2007. Since then, the fit, quality, and overall feel of the helmets has definitely improved as they’ve developed their product lines.
For off-road, I’d be looking at these:
The Scorpion EXOs are pretty decent as well.
Here’s a quick list I threw together for you:
I’ve never heard a bad review of a Scorpion helmet.
That’s a heckuva recovery given the circumstances of the get-off. Sounds like adrenaline kept you from freaking out afterward! I like the approach you took afterward - if something kicks one’s ass, tackle it repeatedly until one has a handle on it.
Ouch! Glad to hear it turned out okay.
Yeah, that looks like it’ll buff out.
And much pain was had by many. Ouch.
Curiouser and curiouser, what would I look for in a set of gloves with regard to protecting against those types of fractures?
Touche! Back to my coffee...and fantasy of riding a motorcycle in a full suit of armor.
