I said the same thing! I definitely think Vegeta raised Goten while Goku was willingly dead. I mean Trunks and Goten are best friends so he probably came around all the time to play. I’m sure some of those times Vegeta had to scold them for being trouble makers and I’m sure he trained Goten a little as well.

It goes back even earlier than that. I still vividly recall how disinterested he was in Gohan when they reunited on Namek. But yeah, he’s a pretty lousy guy when it comes to interpersonal relationships. Hell, I think Goten might receive more face time and parenting from Vegeta than Goku!

I mean, at the end of the Cell saga when Goku basically goes “nah, I’d rather be dead than raise my kid son, Gohan,” then doesn’t even contact his family despite having the ability, the deal is pretty much sealed. Basically as soon as Vegeta fully gets over his psychological problems (late Cell, early Buu saga), he proves himself time and again to be a better father and husband than Goku.

This seems like a good opportunity to talk about my idea for a spinoff series that takes place between the cell and buu sagas. It would be a romantic comedy centering around Bulma and Vegeta as well as Krillin and 18's respecting courtships. Those relationships demand so much more explanation than they’ve been given.
