I can see how they didn’t help, sure: When a studio can give Sandler money to take his friends on vacation and film a thrown together script and then make hundreds of millions on it, why would they take a risk on a script by an unknown even if it is actually funny?
All the trash comedies that came out in the early ‘00s ruined comedy. Studios started making ‘Scary Movie’ knockoffs that were trash, audiences stopped going to them so studios figured comedies don’t make money anymore and stopped making them.
