Like I said, I have’t seen it, so maybe it is a great movie, but I have qualms him ignoring those issues while clearly drawing on the current political climate to sell tickets to the movie. This quote from him in Variety also does not inspire confidence

Yeah, the sentence “But Civil War is not about the military, or the President, or the origins of this particular conflict” made me think, “so we’ll just skip right over the racism, misogyny, bigotry and capitalist exploitation that’s fueling our current and historical rifts? OK then. I’m sure it’s super insightful
But

Please tell me Ashley Park is also back for flashbacks. At any rate, I’m glad Netflix brought this show back. It’s not groundbreaking or must see, but it’s a lot of fun.

I’m for getting rid of it altogether as well. Or move it to a different ceremony on a different night where you can actually cover everyone and flesh out the tribute.

I totally agree. I bailed after the second book because while I found the sci fi stuff interesting the human stuff and characterization was just ... oof.

a genuine narrative feat tying together 23 movies over an 11 year stretch”

Using he/she/they is the exact opposite of high maintenance, it means JVN is OK with feminine, masculine or neutral pronouns. Their assholery has nothing to do with their gender identity. There are plenty of colossal, high maintenance cis-gendered assholes.

They did an amazing job casting the show. It’s amazing how deep the casting pool is once you commit to diving into it.

“It’s been around forever” and “it’s just the way it is” are both justifications for doing nothing and accepting an inequitable system. The talent of those who benefit from nepotism, is not the issue, a system that excludes the talented folks without connections is.

It’s not a matter of whether or not they are talented, it’s a matter of trying to create a more equitable, diverse system where everyone has an opportunity to succeed in the multibillion dollar industry that is entertainment. If they are talented then they shouldn’t need their rich parent to get them that audition or

It’s everywhere and has been around forever” is a terrible justification for anything. If someone is talented, then they should be able to make it without the heavy hand of their successful parents.

He got very lucky with an excellent cast and director.

I don’t think my brain will ever accept Hart as Roland.

what about the tongue tho?

Coincidentally I just started a replay of AC Black Flag. Still fun, still enjoy Matt Ryan and his real accent, still slightly weirded out by Kenway’s blindingly white teeth.

This show was surprisingly good.
