I expected it to be terrible, but at the level of CW terrible, and it couldn’t even manage that. And I have watched a lot of CW terrible.

Oh, very good point.
“this season is set in modern day, meaning it is ostensibly post-MeToo, and anyone who is meeting Roy for 2 minutes is seeing what kind of man he is. She’d be believed.”
Exactly! Even with all the streaming issues (and I’m not minimizing them), it’s still miles better and cheaper than cable for me. Especially since, despite Netflix’s efforts to the contrary, I can share the account with a family member.
I think the good version would have been like Preacher or The Boys. It has a good cast and some good moments, but never quite came together for me. Having Will Arnett dub Samoa Joe was a mistake, it never looked natural the way it did on Doom Patrol or Mandalorian. It needed tightening and polishing.
Twisted Metal could have been a good show, it just wasn’t well done.
Yeah, I think commenters here often make the mistake of thinking most moviegoers are as invested as they are in studio strategy. If it’s a good movie, I don’t think they’d give a damn.
“ but what did we learn from Bill if the show’s message is to find answers through the victim? That Darby should remember the good times? That it’s okay to say goodbye?”
Agree, and also underutilized in general. She’d make a great Kang.
This is a big concern. They also need to commit to making Skarsgard as androgynous as possible.
I agree. I was so excited at the end of TLJ about where they could go from there. Whelp
Oh yeah, you’re right
Yes, good point about her reaction to the suicide.
“He was so into their serial killer investigation until he wasn’t”
I don’t see her as a straightforward heroic character. I see her as a deeply traumatized one. That’s what’s driving her denial of her past. She both recognizes the need to defend herself but refuses to acknowledge why. I guess I don’t see the show idealizing her as much as you see feel they are doing. Maybe at some…
It has a very Agatha Christie vibe, especially as more folks get bumped off.
Are we sure the thrower wasn’t Olivia Wilde?
The problem wasn’t that Donna’s ending was sad, it was that Davies, at the time (IIRC) didn’t realize that it was sad or cruelly ironic. I vaguely remember some comments from him about it being OK because she got married and won the lottery, ignoring the tragedy of losing all her memories, character growth and ability…
I LIKE THE FLASHBACKS. They are a nice counterpoint to the high tech arctic assholery of the present. I do appreciate these recaps though!
As Upton Sinclair said “It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.” Or maybe this guy is just bad at understanding things generally.
