I think the circumstances play into this a lot as well. In my experience, if you are just in the office, I would say a hug is inappropriate, but if you are at a happy hour or other social event, I would say it’s pretty common to see a kiss on the cheek as a goodbye for co-workers that know each other well.

I think it’s important to distinguish a full on hug with body-to-body contact from a light cheek-to-cheek goodbye. In my line of work (public accounting), which is also mostly male, it would be pretty common to see the cheek-to-cheek between men and women (assuming they are familiar with each other) but not a full hug.
