OMG this for EVERYTHING. ANYTIME a woman is offended/disturbed by aggressive male behaviour, or speaks out against abuse/rape/harassment, it MUST be because she has been raped herself. What other reason could there be? /sarcasm

OK. But... you’re assuming that everyone must think like you do. It’s as if you’re saying: “After all, how could any right thinking person condone such a thing?

And the sad thing is that it’s a fact that granting at least 6 months of parental leave makes a significant difference in the cost to the employer. Granting a year of parental leave (we can split the year between the parents) significantly cuts down on the loss of money due to sick days and unexpected vacation days

Don’t you know?? They should’ve thought about that before they got pregnant! But they absolutely should not have an abortion. And it’s the right of the company to deny birth control coverage. And a woman who is married without children is not fulfilling her biological destination.

My daughter works at Olive Garden as a hostess, they were really good to her throughout her pregnancy, shortening her shifts, giving her shifts where she rolls silverware instead of standing at the hostess desk. Before coming back, she discussed the fact that she was breastfeeding with the managers and would need to

Nailed it

The Accused was based on a true story. I remember it vividly because I was living in the area where it happened during the trial. There was a lot of “well, what was she doing alone in that bar with those guys” bullshit at the time. I remember me and another nurse sitting one of the social workers down and explaining

I forgot to ask, do you think that portraying rape was important at one time? I kind of think that telling that story is important to our time, actually acknowledging that it is a thing that women deal with, vs pretending like it doesn’t exist? Telling it over and over, using it for titilation, etc is bullshit.

But The Accused is based on a true story. So... which tried and true tradition is she violating? Biopic? Rape-Revenge?

TOTALLY. Meanwhile the guy version of this is “wife/girlfriend was killed” (or the variation “child was kidnapped”). Basically Hollywood defines women through sex and their ability to procreate and men through their ability to protect others.

Also, audiences can figure out when rape has taken place without graphic depictions. In the latest Mad Max it’s pretty obvious that there was non-consensual sex involved without having to see Immortan Joe’s (probably) freaky junk.

Right? This is the thing: I just don’t need to see it any more. It’s become a sort of bullshit shorthand for “serious” treatment of female characters. You want to show me what a great auteur you are? Show me the relationships between your (named female) characters. Show me a sisterhood, or a mother-daughter

It’s an extremely tired trope. I’m also so sick of seeing it everywhere. Also included in tired female tropes ‘not being able to have babies'

It’s a disturbingly common belief down there that the Antebellum South really was some sort of Golden age, that slavery wasn’t that bad and in fact most families who owned slaves were good to their chattel! Gone with the Wind is practically a historical documentary in their eyes.

that’s the thing about giving no fucks. it doesn’t matter.

GET AWAY FROM HIM TAYLOR

Now playing

I’m going to have disagree about Hiddleston. He gives no fucks. He just likes to dance.

I’m more fond of the Piggie & Gerald books. Never too early to teach kids about medium awareness.

Great book, but it only works with an appropriately dramatic reading. I usually pretend I’m venting to my children about my own life and the burdens of motherhood when I read the line "I HAVE DREAMS Y'KNOW!"

Non-parental units: @1capplegate is talking about Mo Willems hilarious ‘Pigeon’ books. “Don’t let thePigeon Drive the Bus”in this case. From Brooklyn too.
