As a legal immigrant from Europe, yes, it did need to be posted on the whole site. And I have the greatest sympathy for people coming here to seek asylum, or who are just trying to create a better life for their families.

Uh... if you go to a port of entry and ask for asylum... you aren’t breaking the law. That’s how you’re supposed to do it!

Yes, as we all know the penalty for attempting to enter the country illegally (these are asylum seekers, so it’s not illegal to begin with) is to have your children confiscated. Same with speeding. You go 5 mph over the speed limit, you lose your kids.

Yes. And that sucks for the kids. And they are put in an established foster care system with trained case workers. Not cages in a former Walmart.

It is being widely reported that they are separating the families by telling them that they are taking their kids to be bathed. Which is a lie. Upon which the kids are taken away and moved to a facility that their parents have no ability to access. Which is stealing.

I understand the desire to not split up families, but how do you deal with families when laws have truly been broken?

Step 1: STOP STEALING PEOPLE’S KIDS

In the case of asylum seekers, no laws have been broken.

Oh knock it off. This is wrong. This is indefensible. And this is NOT THE KIDS’ FAULT. Defending this makes you complicit to something monstrous.
