Maybe I’m getting old but if this system requires the driver to hold the wheel & pay attention as you should do as you drive then what is the point in “autopilot”?

As speeds increase, so do failure rates across the board. Simply disengage these systems at anything higher than 30-40, and you'll be fine. Using Tesla's "autopilot" at 80 mph is a stupid idea, and you likely deserve whatever is coming to you.

Seems like a false positive could easily cause an accident. It’s why people don’t make a habit of slamming on their brakes on the freeway.

Yep, my moms did a panic stop on I-10 where there’s 75mph speed limits because of a large tumbleweed. Damn near caused a massive high speed pileup with tractor trailers and all.

Hell, my wife’s car tells you to brake when you’re making a left turn and someone coming the opposite way is doing the same.

Amen! Anyone who needs this nanny crap in their cars need to learn how to drive.

I had to turn mine off completely on my (absolute crap) Mazda 6.

This. Here in the real world, most/sometimes/partial attention = zero attention. It’s ludicrous to think people will stay involved if they don’t have to.

Tesla have the human factors EXACTLY wrong on this one.

Tesla’s problem is that their sensors can’t adapt to sudden changes. If that car was following someone and they waited to the last second before changing lanes to avoid that cop and the other vehicle, the Tesla sensors can’t register that something was beyond the car it was following that quickly.

As an old AND a person who has worked with electronics and sensors for 30 years, I would rather DRIVE MY FUCKING CAR and not rely on buggy equipment and software to do it for me

Having an “advanced driver assistance” system that is JUST good enough to drive the car right up until the moment it can’t is idiotic. Humans are not wired to work very well in that sort of situation.

Because that would turn a $5,000 trailer into a $50,000 trailer while also halving the payload it could carry.

IT CAN BE DONE

You’re a fucking idiot.

Semaphore turn signals are awesome.

So the exhaust pipe is in a dumb place, the steering wheel motor is too strong, and the panel gap on the trunk lid is too wide.
