Heard a bit about this once. Along with the fact that NFL helmets are not ideal for absorbing impact (completely different sport but NASCAR is infinitely better for impact), the belief that these items keep them safe, has encouraged players to be more dangerous.

Nothing like a TV timeout or 3 to avoid having to show viewers the grim reality of playing in the NFL.

As horrifying as it sounds—take off the pads and the helmets and be amazed as the number of injuries goes way, way down.
