Just because that’s all that you do with computers, doesn’t mean that this development is not important for those of us that rely on ever increasing capability to get our work done.

Very much, but still just as true. It’s not like this is a demo from some unknown start-up pitching a revolution like SOLAR FREAKING ROADWAYS. It’s from a company so entrenched in their industry that their name usually used by people as a generic term not even realizing it’s a brand name.

That couldn’t sound more like marketing speak if you tried.

Thankfully it’s coming from a company like Tarmac which is world renowned for their paving materials solutions, so the chances are really good that it’s already been thoroughly tested with the range of environments in which it’s viable with all of that data available to the civil engineers who will be considering its

You really need the equivalent of an optical transistor to really unlock light-based computing. Then you get not only interconnects, but everything. Routing, logic, computation....the whole enchilada.
