That’s a valid point. Ford, however, still has physical keys for a number of their products. If I was CEO and faced with “these trucks sit for months” vs “let’s install keyed ignitions and recall-fix them later”, I’d pick door number two. But what do I know 🤷🏻‍♂️

Unconfirmed reports I read mentioned that Ford’s holdup was over the microchips in KEYS, not even the trucks themselves. It’s too ridiculous to believe but I heard it from several that work for Ford. Idk about GM, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was something stupid. 

I would argue to go the other way. Get one of the cheaper early 00s Outbacks or Foresters, pay ~$500 and get the turbo HGs installed, never worry about anything ever again.  4EAT or manual both are awesome. Even better is if you can find one of the 3.0l H6 engines. Greatest car regret was selling mine.

This is one of these that I’m super excited about. A FLA car that seems well taken care of and properly sorted. The old Rangies aren’t *that* bad since there was a minimum of motors and technology back then. The Buick engine is…fine…and the rest of the drivetrain is pretty stout.

The sales and install side is the important factor here. Stop the sale of loud cars and stop the install of equipment that makes them loud and that cuts down on a huge part of the problem. Regulators will be looking more at aftermarket installers than end-users, likely.
