If you just got in an altercation with police and they had your addy, would you go home and wait for them to knock?

You seem to have forgotten the part where he was punching them in the face and grabbed their weapon. Cops aren’t generally going to let you tire yourself out after that.  Also, he might not come back for the car, or send someone else. I know I wouldn’t come back for it myself.

Might have something to do with being trained professionally to use the weapon.
