Why do people want Batman to not kill? He's a fascist. Portraying him as a murderer is honest. The semi-soft-soap portrayals of Batman so many people seem to desire - ie. gritty world, "good guy fascist" Batman being "tough on crime" - are stomach-churningly distasteful. It's indulgence in a right wing power fantasy.
