@superbad: Yes, tip the cable guy—provided he exerts some modicum of effort. When I moved into my current apartment, for example, the installer had to snake a coaxial down our fifth-story window, then trek through an asbestos-laden basement and hook everything up. Also, he was cool about me being drunk throughout the…
@Dr. Chim Richolds: It's funny cuz it's true...Though significantly less funny, I reckon, if you're a Browns, Chiefs, or Chargers fan.
@xj_4x4: Hmmm, you seem pretty convinced—so convinced that I'm no longer 100 percent sure 'bout my earlier assertion. Someone wanna volunteer to send her an e-mail? Her webmaster, at least, is at email@example.com. Who knows? Maybe she's really cool and will actually respond—thereby dramatically enhancing my…
Sorry, y'all, but there's no way that's Capt. Janeway. Her bio says she was born in April of 1955, which would make her a few months shy of her 18th birthday when this ad first aired.
Thanks to all who pointed out my error. Apologies. I just made the fix, and the column should update shortly.
@Kaiser-Machead: I would totally pay to see Sasquatch discuss his affection for the iPhone. I bet he likes the scrollable voice mail, too.
@Darcy: If you're a Feiss fan, you should really check out that "Bed and Breakfast" flick I link to in the column. Her acting skills are far from dazzling—really, really far—but there's something 'bout those sad, sleepy eyes that'll reel you in.
@mhains: Wow, genius idea. Though the results might not be pretty—I hereby volunteer one of Gizmodo's interns.
Interesting take, strongorbit. I've actually been meaning to read "Blue Ocean Strategy" for a while; you've given me good reason to move it to the top o' the pile.
Thanks to all for the kind words 'bout Low End Theory. Just to clarify, it wasn't killed on orders from above—I just sorta ran out of gas, ideas-wise. You can only write about knock-off MP3 players so many times...
Thanks, ninjagin. Much appreciated.
Thanks for the comments, y'all, especially those on /. modding. MUCH appreciated, and extraordinarily helpful. Plus fives all around, even to the critics (whose complaints I understand).
Argh, brilliant—totally blanked on the ol' "side conference" trick. Well done, killarclown, well done.
Damage, can I cop the adjective "Bosetastic" for future use? Dig it.
Thanks for the pro-5.8 feedback, Zhao and HitScan. I'm all for being a solid member of the community, so if 5.8 GHz will make life easier for my neighbors, I'm in.
While I definitely get the scientific explanation for the superiority of 5.8 GHz phones, I just haven't experienced it in practice. I live in a crowded NYC neighborhood with a jillion WiFi networks in range. Yet I've never noticed a difference, in terms of interference, between a 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz.
Hey, thanks for the that comment, giddio—you definitely make a strong case for the QuickPAD, and for "limited" tech in general.
Thanks, Doofusgumby. Well said.
