I was given a 1968 Mini for my 16th birthday in 1990 when I gained my learners permit here in Australia. It my cost my grandfather $1300. That was when old Minis were cheap. It had no synchro on first so I leaned to double-declutch. I still do by force of habit today.

It happens all over the world. Prime example on Gumtree.com.au right now:

If you were in the UK, Europe or Australia you could take a new Defender and only Land Rover geeks would realize it's not a 20+ year old carefully restored example. Unfortunately you are in the "land of the free", where you are not free enough to have Defenders! Poo!

That console is definitely out of something else. This is the best pic I could find of what it should look like, from a RHD Holden Gemini - same car in Australia. I had a manual PETROL Gemini of this era for about five years.

My first car (1968 Mini) came up for sale a few years ago, twenty years after I sold it. I could not resist going to look at it. It had been transformed from a stock Mini 998cc into a virtual Cooper S replica. Even though the chassis number confirmed it was my old car I struggled to find any signs of the car I

Has it escaped your attention Mr Torch that Chery are creating a reborn Moke using mechanical components from their hatchback range? Moke International

I give you the Postal Moke. Used in Tasmania, Australia.

Sorry, but that is the most boring road I've even been on. Very little to see but miles of nothing. At least the stretch from Adelaide to Uluru that is. I haven't been North of there.

Maybe so. The Autospeed project car was a JDM import. He turboed the petrol engine! If you google "Autospeed Prius" you can find the articles.

What I find hilarious about the Prius is the battery pack. Quoting Autospeed:

I'm in Australia. I like your thinking, but Australia is like the US when importing cars. Anything pre 1989 is easy. Anything 1989 onwards is difficult. Plus there is the steering wheel on the wrong side problem. A mate imports cars for a living from the US, UK and Japan. A new Mustang converted to right hand

I really like what you are doing here. I don't see it as flipping. It's not restoring either. It's more like reviving. You see the potential hidden under the grime and neglect. Then you put the effort in to make it happen. Plus the honesty is refreshing. If it wasn't for the vast expanse of water between us, I

Why the heck did they make the bus sound like Maggie Thatcher? Surely they could have found a lady with a German accent or a Dutch one to do the voice? Regardless, I am 39 years old and weeping all over my desk here! Damn you!

I was thinking that. Who needs a crumple zone! :D

That's not a Kingswood. THIS is a Kingswood.

+1 !!

"MacPherson independent front suspension"....

A very similar thing happened in Melbourne in 2011 after one driver decided to drive up an on-ramp to escape a freeway blocked by an accident. Like sheep dozens of others followed.

Great stuff! Not a proposal in my case but sort of related. A friend's black Mini was one of our wedding cars. My wife (and I) always loved that car. After 15 years of pestering my friend finally agreed to sell it to me 18 months ago. I purchased it in secret, drove it home and presented it to my wife. I didn't

Put a camper cap on it and call it an RV. Then they will be stuffed, as I bet a bunch of these busybodies have Winnebagos parked outside.
