Great article. Autocross is a ton of fun. I've done both road racing and competitive autocross (drive 15 hours each way for 6 minutes of seat time) and find that the competitive thrill for autocross is unmatched by road racing.

Do you have adjustable coil-overs in the front? They won't turn a Baja Bug into an autocross champion, but they will help immensely, while giving you the option of a softer suspension for off-road hooning.

I think I had more fun the first time I autocrossed a stock 4 banger e30 than I did any of the other times after ruining it with suspension and a big 6 cylinder.
