So it’s basically terrazzo but with recycled glass instead of stone?

Good luck! Universities can be very very nice places to work for, even though there’s still a fair bit of bullshit (and I don’t know about the US, but in Canada we still get defined benefits pensions, at all levels).

Thanks! I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I do think the interview went really well! I really like the zoom interview format. I got all my information propped up behind my screen so I don’t forget anything important in my nervousness.

And that’s why we have baby stuff from the 1960s that no one uses. No, I’m not putting my kid in a crib that was made decades ago and went through two families whose kids are nearing 50 years old now.

You can do it, Pink Ears!

My dad’s head exploded when I hired a service to do yardwork in my heavily wooded area. I have more than a dozen trees shedding leaves every year. The service I hire is excellent and will always do a better job than I do.

I had one job where I could never get time off approved, and I had almost 300 hours of vacation time accrued. When I finally got fed up and threw my keys at my manager, on the way out the door, she was like "You'll regret this! What will you do for money?" and I was like "Pshh, I'm not worried, I've got 300 hours of

What I find frustrating is that my parents are, in general, fairly progressive (not just “for their age” but period), but their tendency to always look for the cheapest product/ignore inflation means they don’t see the value in paying a little more for something sustainably made of higher quality. If I pay $50 CDN for

That would be a bonus! I worked at a University when I was a student, and I loved it! Do you get to take classes for free?

I was raised to believe that if you weren’t in school or at work, you were lazy. My parents (Depression-era, born and raised in poverty) never took sick leave even when they were sick. I was in the hospital as a kid, and they still went to work. They missed every school play, recital, spelling bee, science, fair,

This is beautiful. I’m sorry for your loss. What a lovely way to spend Christmas with your husband.

My family has always gone all-in for Christmas Eve. We’re a family of band/choir geeks and drama nerds, all grown up. This isn’t one continuous memory, but rather a collection of remembrances.

I’m not going to say that this is my best holiday story, but today I got an awesome gift- a gift that brought me this bang-out of joyful suprise that I didn’t think was possible for any reasonable adult to have:

Tragically, I did not put up a tree due to a young cat that would just cause issues.  It is also late, and I am way lit, but tomorrow, I swear, I will submit a picture of a tree topper that I made in kindergarten out of a lux bottle, cotton balls and construction paper.

Hey, Maria - thanks for organizing these each week. I really look forward to the threads.

And now this is the thread in which we share the things we have as Christmas tree toppers:

When I was eight or nine I rode my bike to the drugstore and bought my mom some bright orange clip-on earrings with several little shiny orbs hanging on them. I thought they were beauuuuuutiful. My mom never wore earrings. I gave them to my mom for Christmas, and I can remember at least twice when she and my dad were

After ten years of posting my shit on Kinja, you people know better than people in my actual life.

Back in the 60s/early 70s when smoking was still common that is what we routinely got my grandparents because it was an affordable gift. Amazingly neither died of lung cancer or emphysema. They did quit in their 60s and lived a few decades more.

Well she sounds mature 🙄. The baby manners book was inspired haha.
