I’ve got to give it to Aimee this week despite the first pick of coffee ice cream.

You’ll never get a discount for opting out of amenities, because that is not what Basic Economy is about. Allowing a carry-on bag, a seat selection or allowing you board earlier do not cost the airlines any money. Legacy airlines found ways to generate value of these “perks” as a way to generate additional substantial …
The St. Louis Chess Club (that operates the World Chess Hall of Fame) offers some adult beginner chess classes (they offer higher level classes on strategy as well) as part of their educational program. This is great if you are more of an interactive learner than a computer/book learner.
+1 for the Chili Mac & Cheese bowl (with chipotle onions) at Steve’s Hot Dogs. Love that place!
The stadium is an incredible deal for St. Louis, but this kind of deal probably isn’t able to be repeated in other places. The stadium is essentially being donated by Enterprise Holdings (the philanthropic arm of Enterprise Rent-A-Car company). The Taylor family of Enterprise is a huge supporter of the city and sees…
Not if it is done the Crown Candy way....there, the bacon is king.
Kate’s got this one, but Kevin put up a good fight. Jelly Bellies and Red Hots were an inexcusable oversight, though.
Former “BIG BEER” brewmaster here. Good question. The type of blending you refer to rarely, if ever happens in brewing. It is not logistically feasible. It can be done with wine and spirits as an extra week/month or two of aging to find an appropriate barrel for blending won’t perceptively change the taste. With beer,…
Hangover symptoms (at least mine) fall into two categories: those caused by dehydration from alcohol (headaches, general lightheadiness) and those caused by histamines (sinus pressure, drainage/nausea, sinus headaches). Histamines are a byproduct of fermentation and can be present in high amounts depending on the…
Only Canadians would regularly eat something spattered with “Teen Sauce”...
I really wanted to vote for Kate, but she too many selections with unforgiveable defects for me. First, for the good, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is the best pick on the board (IMO) — of the truly “supermarket” beers you can get everywhere. But:

I LOVE kölsch and Früh Kölsch is one of my favorites to drink in Germany, but it is almost impossible to find some (and others like it) in the US that isn’t punished into oblivion. Customs clearance, especially in warm or hot months are not the friend of delicate imported beers.
I frequently volunteer on United to get bumped when I am returning home from business trips. I use the funds to pay for vacation trips or mileage runs for status at the end of the year if needed. The article is a good summary, but a few additional points from my experiences:
There’s a great hot dog place by me that has a smoked hot dog with cream cheese (cream cheese, pickled jalepenos, Chicago green pepper relish, chopped garlic, and shredded cheddar) and one with baked beans (homemade baked beans, homeade mustard potato salad, bacon, and BBQ sauce). Both are absolutely delicious, like…
Somewhere in the top 5— Using the intermission trivia contest/ shell game / kiss cam to creatively troll the opposing rival fans.
I end up doing a mileage run for status purposes once every 2-3 years. Last year, I was about 1500 miles and $600 spend short of 1K status on United, so I found and took a $700 round trip flight from St. Louis to Hawaii in December. It is worth it to me as I travel a lot for work but as the frequent flyers say, your…
If you were born and raised in St. Louis and have never heard of a slinger, I don’t know what to tell you. Every single diner and breakfast house in St. Louis has their own variation. My colleagues from the UK make me take them to a different famous slinger place every time they are over to visit.
I highly disagree as well. Red-eyes are a last resort for me, although I get stuck on them more often than I like. I fly around 175k miles a year for work. The only way I can sleep on planes (even in a lie flat seat) is by taking Ambien. OTC sleep aids and melatonin just leave me in a groggy fog with zero actual sleep.…
Amen, Kate! We should have these commandments gilded and distributed to all bars across America!
