No question about that - these driverless cars are far from being ready for market. But - at least to the best of my understanding, which admittedly isn’t much - this particular case shouldn’t have been an issue.

That’s the point of LIDAR, though. You don’t need infrared, because wether or not it’s dark outside doesn’t matter.
