I’ll play every now and then, but when more and more people seemed to switch from playing to win to playing to make others lose, it started losing its fun for me.

Yes, you are reaching. Bayonetta, Snake, and Mr Game&Watch all had their characters stylized to fit in more with Smash. Bayonetta was given more realistic proportions. Snake is not the same model that is in the Metal Gear games, as well as uses custom animations for the game. And Mr. Game&Watch, while stylized to

As someone once told me when I asked the same: They feel that the coverage they would get, even if negative, is more than they would get if they developed their own IP.

The dev process for Smash is to analyze each character and try to give life to the legacy and interesting traits of each character within the Smash formula.”

The visual elements have always been my main argument. Other statements, such as “There needs to be more than a game being a ‘best seller’ to make it into Smash” are just standalone statements, not much of an argument there.

(tetris blocks aren’t characters btw, so bad example)

Okay, re-read what you wrote. You acknowledge that other characters had animations and moves added to them to make them fit with Smash. They also had their looks enhanced to make them fit with Smash. Steve, however, had no changes to make him fit, so he doesn’t fit. All the other characters are Smash versions of their

Funny thing is, though: Every other character in the game had changes or concessions made to make them fit in with Smash. Even Mr Game&Watch did. But Steve, for some reason, is some untouchable sacred cow. As one YouTuber said about Steve while he was “gushing” over the character “It doesn’t even feel like I’m playing

Not even close to the point I was making, was it? The comment I replied to said “Minecraft is literally the best selling game of all time.” but what does that mean for Smash? Inclusion in the game shouldn’t just be based on “Oh you sold a lot of units!” Does that mean that the Tetris blocks are the next “character” to

The biggest thing in MMOs that keep me or lose me is the interaction with other players. If it’s too little, then I can just play for a while and be done with it. If it’s too aggressive, I don’t really want to deal with that and will stop playing (seriously, I’m not going to babysit for free). But if it’s nice and

But... if you want to play Minecraft, shouldn’t you just play Minecraft? It seems that instead of a Smash character, we got Minecraft, because Minecraft players can’t play anything other than Minecraft. At least that’s the impression it gives.

If you make ice cream, you make it for the customers. You don’t get angry when they don’t like what you like. And you DEFINITELY don’t insult their tastes. That’s bad business practice.

Should your character creation choice be insulted at all? Tongue in cheek or not?

I must be taking your “good lord y’all are boring” and “I love her lack of energy! Go girl! Give us nothing” comments the wrong way, then.

Yes, more options are always welcome. But I don’t think we should be insulting people for the characters they create.

But we’re not talking about pre-made characters. We’re talking about characters created by the individuals who want to play them. If they want to create a white male human, why is that a problem?

One bit of interesting trivia that I found while doing research on these games is that Doki Doki Panic actually did start off development as a Mario game. So, even before they put in the Fuji TV characters for their Dream Factory ‘87 event, it had Mario DNA at the heart of it. Shigeru Miyamoto even had them include

In your other article, you lamented the lack of options that let you create a character that looks more like you. But in this one, you’re bashing players for doing the same. Seems kinda strange to me.

Yeah, the name “Baldur’s Gate 3" just seems a bit tacked on as a marketing ploy. I wonder if it could have been named something different and nothing else would have had to change? If so, then the BG3 name really is just a marketing ploy.
