I always wonder...did all the regular yellow cabs just take the night off or something? I’ve totally taken a yellow cab because Uber was surging and/or the pickup area was chaotic.

I’ve had Lyft PPZs pop up late at night near my home in the suburbs. Rarely actually get rides from within the “surge” zone, so I assume the algorithm may well be incentivizing me *not* to go in to Town where it’s actually busy, because it is that much saturated with drivers! I usually just park for a few minutes

Actually, Uber/Lyft have been shown to increase traffic. When they’re driving to pick you up, the person per vehicle occupancy is effectively zero. Total vehicle miles increases for the same trips, ergo, more traffic.

I am not sure how this works as a business model, or how you get enough companies on board, but if there were a subscription service that included multiple local news outlets, kind of like a Netflix for News, I would likely subscribe. If it’s signing up for each outlet separately, well I already have too many monthly
