Did we just have a civil debate on the internet? In 2022?

Yes EVs are happening, change is inevitable. What I take issue with is the delusion that EVs are zero emissions. They are not. EVs merely take the pollution normally seen by motorists and put them into a remote, out of sight out of mind location. In addition to the remote pollution of electricity generation, pollution

Like California mandating electric vehicles in law 13 years from now and a day later asking people not to charge their cars.”

It is now illegal in Virginia.  Even Virginia thought it was a bad idea.  That says a lot.

Hard to really embrace when the price point is outside of your average workers budget.  Also, there’s no infrastructure, battery materials are limited, we’re trying to build it all on an increasingly fragile power grid, etc.  Like California mandating electric vehicles in law and a day later asking people not to

We will as soon as EV evangelists admit that EV sports cars aren’t possible, and that they are explicitly aiming for the death of sports driving.

Lol car culture is absolutely dead in general. There are still little sub-groups of people who are really into certain makes/models/styles who try to keep it going and spread knowledge, but social media, Hellcat culture, and wealthy collectors have completely choked the life out of this hobby.

I think that’s a bit of an overreaction. It’s a unique, smart-looking car that you never see anywhere, and when you consider how great a shape it is aside from the rust area that needs to be fixed? $4500 is a more than reasonable price to get into it. Especially if you know a reasonable body shop that can patch the

140hp out of a 2L 4-cyl is impressive for the gas crisis era of the 70s. I’m pretty sure there were American V8s at the time that couldn’t pull that kind of power.

They’d probably pour out a 40 of cider and then we’d have ants, and it would be a whole big thing

I feel like one benefit of electrification of everything is that we might see a return to a variety of body styles that manufacturers have abandoned -- roadsters, shooting brakes, minivans -- since electric drivetrains allow you to essentially throw any kind of coachbuilt body work on a skateboard chassis. I really

They’re like Youts.

I had a student at the track earlier this year with an FRS, and I was very impressed by it. It drove better than my S2000 did back when it was stock. For the money, I can’t think of a single platform that would be a better budget track car (especially now that NA miatas are $10k+ cars). The torque dip also doesn’t

No amount of vents is going to offset the danger of 110+f heat.

That is not unique to Toyota.

Who wrote the headline?

“Leather” is overrated. Most “leather” in vehicles is there for durability, not comfort. I say “Leather” because just about everyone with leather seating surfaces is actually sitting on some kind of polymer protective layer over the cow skin. The rest of people are sitting on pure synthetic polymer materials.

While I’m not going to disparage the ability to reach a variety of food and entertainment options without having to drive, I can’t say that ‘go grocery shopping every day’ is a selling point.
