Emphatic asides (That man! God!) without the emphasis. I did not know they were a thing, but here we have it.

I can see where the idea of Whedon as a downer might grow from his avoidance of happy couples, but that's not a realism thing. It's well established that stable, functional relationships are boring to watch.

…did that ever need proving?

The "South" is not a geographic area, it's a culture. It just blows my mind how few people can make that distinction. Example: I am from Houston. I am not, and did not grow up knowing, any rednecks. Because Houston is just like any other big city - huge, messy, diverse, etc. There are as many hicks on the east coast

Why would he know what a double album is? That format has been defunct for almost the entire time the generation which is in and graduating from College has been buying music.

I loved that episode, but I agree. It's a hard sell. And the whole beginning section of that episode is just working so hard to establish the premise and the rules of the world, it doesn't have time to be funny. Which is a big problem in a show so short, I'd say.

I don't get what is dickish about the excerpt. I haven't read any other part of the AMA, and this still doesn't come across as anything other than answering a question bluntly. We know Chevy Chase is grumpy and stuff. Not like this isn't believable.

I was explaining a mindset, not advocating it. Most men (myself included) are still ignorant and inclined to dipshittiness. Please don't jump to conclusions because - well, I don't know why you did. I guess you have some ironic praise quota you have to reach.
