This is somewhat obvious but worth mentioning: this design requires fairly high ceilings, to be able to easily remove the garden tools from the back slot. Won’t work in a shed, or even a lot of garages with finished ceilings. From the video, it looks like the top of the organizer is at about 5', so getting that rake

Do these numbers factor in all the surcharges that cable companies add on? My Comcast “plan” is $89, but my actual cost is over $160. About a third of that difference is for legit but somewhat obfuscated upgrades — I think it’s $10 for HD, $5 for equipment rental, and $10 for X1 (their TiVo-esque service). The other

If you’re working in the garden or with other organic material, use nitrile gloves.

Some plants (and parts of plants) care about “freezing”, others care more about absolute temperature. Particularly perennials that regrow from roots or bulbs each year. My artichokes can handle months of frozen ground, but they definitely care about the difference between 0 degrees and 10 degrees, and 6 inches of

I understand the sentiment, but without numbers then you’re really just guessing that it’s “worth it.” In the 90s, per-cyclist head injury rates increased by 51% in the US, despite the growing popularity of helmets (and helmet laws). The likely explanation is a combination of increased risk-taking by the cyclists

I sort of agree... except for the fact that I’ve been in two accidents that would have been prevented by a driver who saw me giving me more space. First I got doored by a parked car, which I could have avoided if I’d had an extra two feet to my left, and then a driver just plain clipped me with his mirror, misjudging

This is super debatable, and kind of contextual. If you’re in an accident, having a helmet obviously provides valuable head protection. But if you factor in that both cars and cyclists behave more recklessly when the cyclist is wearing a helmet, it’s not clear that the protection of wearing a helmet is worth the

Commercial turkeys (typically the broad breasted bronze) have been so zealously selected for growth that they are borderline dysfunctional. They can’t reproduce on their own, because their bodies (particularly their breasts) get in the way, so they have to be artificially inseminated. If their diet isn’t balanced just

8% of men are colorblind (0.5% of women). Check the math on NFL viewership, stadium size, and ticket prices, we can say that roughly 3500 people IN THE STADIUM struggled to see the game last night... and they paid roughly $250k for their seats. And about 400k TV viewers also struggled to see it. And it’s plausible

Any word on whether any players were impacted by this? Statistically, there should be about 4 colorblind players per active roster (unless colorblindness makes it harder to reach the NFL)

Could you explain what you mean? I genuinely don’t understand what you’re saying... who are the two people pocketing $10 each?

I use a book + gravity. Or else I just eat them all.

DE is awesome for dealing with spiders and roaches in your home or shed, but it’s not ideal for the garden, because it’s going to kill any insect that comes across it, regardless of whether it’s a beneficial insect or a pest. If you’re going to use DE on, say, an emerging colony of squash bugs, you should wrap the

He ran it on 3rd and 4th, no less. But after the game he told the sideline reporter that those were basically the only two goal-line plays they had prepared... and he started to change to a passing play on 4th down but the players shouted him down and made him stick with the prepared run. (I think he said players...

Looks like it’s this shirt:

Assuming a perfectly spherical firecracker, of course.

I don’t think this will have a huge impact on his career average of 0.025 catches* per game.

Anybody have input on the efficacy of these in combination with an evaporative (“swamp”) cooler, rather than AC? Our evap, plus the cool desert nights, do a pretty good job on their own, and cheaply, so I don’t think it’s appropriate for us, but am just curious.

Definitely don’t let experience get in the way. Most of the people involved in CfA have a collaborative and mentorship mindset, so they’ll be happy to bring you into the fold and help you find ways to contribute. And, at least in my local brigade, many of our participants are relatively new to the industry...

Swamp coolers are also pretty useless in high humidity, and their performance tanks above 95 degrees. Air con and frozen margaritas are the only things that work in high humidity. Or blasting yourself with a high powered fan, to create windchill.
