For Google Calendar, they require that you grant permissions to manage your entire calendar. That’s ludicrous, especially since this is really just an ICAL feed that shouldn’t require any permissions whatsoever.
Good tips overall, but the idea in the headline is a bit flawed. Unless you know for sure it’s an heirloom, there’s a good chance the tomato you are eating is a hybrid and won’t reproduce true to type — if you plant its seeds, you have no idea what variety you’ll be growing, and you may end up with a disappointing…
Thank you for specifically calling out Gladwell and Friedman. I swear, both those guys start with a catchy book title, then draft a thesis statement that roughly matches the title, then spend two years flying around the world conducting “research” in which all they do is meet with other “thought leaders” and quote…
Also doesn’t work for dads traveling alone with an infant.
Same here. I was so excited to have cables that wouldn’t fray and fall apart... but instead they all seem to have problems with the actual charger contacts and aren’t any more reliable in the long term. I bought 5 last fall and 3 are already shot.

Semi-urban homestead. Both farms and condos within walking distance. We’re on a conventional city lot but have it packed full of garden and animals. :)
Cats would definitely help, but due to allergies we can’t have indoor cats, and our neighborhood will squish outdoor cats. If we ever move to a more rural property I’ll be hoarding barn cats, though.
Sticky traps are the devil. I’ve several times found a still living mouse stuck to one, minus two legs that it had chewed off trying to escape. And I once woke up to a dog on my chest with a mouse and sticky trap stuck to his face.
My grandfather was an engineer on three of the four lowest scoring bridges in my home county. Way to go, gramps. (To be fair, they’re mostly just old).
Anyone with an infant or toddler practices this by default, with baby wipes in every room. Plus it’s really easy to grab more than you intended. It’s pretty common for me to accidentally pull out two wipes and use one on the baby’s face and the other on the counter.
1. Ask egg sellers at your farmers market. They may only have chickens, but they’re likely to know locals with other species.
In my experience, the budget propane weed torches don’t work one bit on live weeds, only on dried out weeds. Otherwise you just end up standing there forever, waiting for them to steam off enough moisture to catch fire. Burning also doesn’t do a thing to the roots, so a lot of weeds will come back. I think the torch…
Put differently: Shep wrote a pathetic headline straight from an 80s infomercial, and it’s totally reasonable to snark at it.

deleted my own dumb duplicate reply.
Uh... the video uses books to explain sorting algorithms, but that doesn’t mean that’s how you should actually sort books. This is actually a terribly inefficient way to do it, because it’s optimized to reduce comparisons (a trivial mental action) rather than to reduce moves (a tedious physical action).
My wife and I did this for our wedding. We each got a copy of a favorite book, hollowed it out, and then put our ring inside (secured, of course, so the ring-bearers wouldn’t lose them). We didn’t get too crafty with our wedding, but this little detail was my favorite.
Or... we could not worry about it. We can’t run away from every damn thing that has bacteria on it.
Was curious if the data supported your comment, so I took a look. For the past 60 years NFL scores have been pretty steady, fluctuating around 21 pts/team/game, plus or minus 2 or 3 points. For the past 10 years they’ve been trending upward a little, but still within that range. And, perhaps most relevantly,…
