A sound strategy, and a logical progression from the Festivus tradition of gathering the family, drinking, and going round the table, describing all the ways in which family members have disappointed us over the past year! What could possibly go wrong?

On the Slydial thing (#4)? Anybody know whether the caller ID on the recipient's phone would show your own number, or Slydial's number (making it clear & obvious that you'd deliberately avoided talking to the recipient)? Wouldn't necessarily cause me not to use it either way, but if I'm resorting to subterfuge, I'd

I thought Mitch Hedberg's answer to this idiotic question was the last word on it:

@tomcat1483: I guess I should recognize what it is, but I don't. Can you please identify what this solution is? Thanks!

@Richard Snyder: Little-known factoid: In Judaism, we have no set fee for a Mohel's services. By tradition, they work for tips.

@alboy2: Right on, Man!

@jefftcarroll: When you say: "OK, I've filled out the form and received a promotion code", what form are you referring to? In other words, how the heck do you GET this magical "promotion code?"

@Chairman Kaga: Then again, the GTV 6 had such phenomenal brakes (especially "brake feel"), that improving them would be difficult!

@Yeah!: Thanks, and I hate to be so dense, but I still don't see it. Looking in Settings—Mail, Contacts, Calendars—Exchange. Do I need to "Add an Account"?

RE iOS Default notes app: "Don't forget this thing! It's actually pretty great once you get Gmail syncing up and running. (It's in the settings.)" Could you please explain/elaborate? I don't see any settings on my default notes app (iPhone 4, 4.1), let alone any way to make them sync with anything?

@tgrantt: Square-drive screws are the best, and with the proper driver, change a 3-handed operation into a one-handed operation. Best source: [www.mcfeelys.com] But one correction: they are also known correctly as Robertson drive (not Robinson).

@lhed: Would you mind elaborating a bit on that last part? Why is it "faux security?" Thanks-

@_Ko0LaiD_: +1 They've destroyed more data and stolen more days which I can never get back, than any virus or malware. But they'll never get another chance again.

@zrag: nice! (go sox!)

@Jarerex: Yikes, you read my mind!

@rhondalicious: Depending on how you define "re-doing," I would think that when you sand the floor, this should come right out, no?

@holyspidoo: Sorry, I don't. I'm a hobbyist furniture-builder and first read of this technique in a woodworking magazine. I've used it many times following workbench accidental bangs from tools, etc., and it has worked surprisingly well, especially on not-yet-finished wood. It also works OK on wood with an oil

@rhondalicious: It works best on a "dent" which has a relatively large surface area in relation to its depth, which is unfortunately precisely the opposite of a "score line" from a knife. Also I should mention that the more surface film-type finish you have applied to the wood, the less effective this technique will

Looks good for small "scrapes." For actual "dings" (ie small "dents") in the wood: 1. Apply a damp (NOT soaking wet) washcloth to the wood; 2. Apply the tip of a hot iron to the damp washcloth for 5-15 seconds. The steam re-swells the wood fibers and makes the dents disappear.
