The point is, the anti-SMG comment is BS, and the only people that bag on it are people that have never once driven it. It is not higher in maintenance or prone to failure as uninformed people claim. Many people seek out the e46m3 with SMG because of it. If you want the s54b32 in a manual your better off in the

Yep, from the bell-housing back it's the same damn thing, just hydraulically actuated. And I found with some adjustment of the 1-5 selector it would shift pretty damn well. You almost need to lift off the throttle a bit as you do in a manual to get it to shift smoothly, again stuff people who bash it don't bother to

I'm pretty sick of SMG hate. Once again to sum it up: 1) it's the same transmission as the manual and 2) the CSL uses the same SMG exclusively.

It's possibly the most sought after M3 out there (maybe after the E30?), but most have been driven hard and rough. And coupes seem to be much harder to find than convertibles, and the SMG gearbox is largely considered to be junk.

i purposely opted for the SMG because i wanted to try the technology. You are correct as long as you treat it like a clutch less manual it works well.

There is nothing wrong with the SMG, it is different. If you bag on it, you need to say the Lambo E-gear and Ferrari F1 system are also junk. They are the same system, and both of these are more prone to failure, and provide a much harsher driving experience. Yes the SMG has a small chance to break around 80k mile

OK guys, time to quit perpetuating the SMG is crap myth. Seriously. Because it isn't crap at all. You know the m3 that is actually going to be worth money? The CSL? What transmission is in it? I'll wait while you google....

Typing "FIFA 15" into amazon isn't hard. Looking at the back of a Cheetos bag for the nutritional info isn't that hard. This is a solution to a problem literally no one has. The only problem this solves is not buying something from Amazon, and that's not our problem.
