I started PC gaming in ‘97. The ‘entitlement” shown by some fan communities over time is simply mind blowing. When Steam was first launched, Valve put out a Quake 1 mod with a half-life flavor simply as a “thank you’ to fans. The result? When Gabe attempted to tell the “fans” that it was just a gift for the community

Games don’t “die”, you buy them, play them, and then move on with your life. They aren’t an investment that update in perpetuity until the heat death of the universe, unless they are pulling in consistent money.

I’m old enough to remember a time when you bought a game, played it - hopefully beat it - and then waited for the next one several years later.

All to say the expectation and demands of fans is wild. I loved Red Dead 2 but the freaking entitlement here, “lashing out at devs” is bullshit. Grow up.

Critics are often out of touch. It isn’t just critics, but a lot of people in and around the industry lose perspective on the real world or get caught up in all the inside baseball. It doesn’t help whn most of a critic’s social interactions are on Twitter. Twitter is not representative of the the real world, but

I’m not sure this is such a mystery. There are a large number of people who consume pop culture without feeling the need to talk about and analyze the pop culture they consume. Don’t get me wrong. I personally LOVE to talk about pop culture, but I’m an outlier. Most people just, you know, watch stuff, even good stuff.

No offense meant Noel, but maybe that’s just because entertainment media isn’t as important as its writers seem to think it is?

1) Because it’s watched by the same boomers who love NCIS and Blue Bloods and The Closer and whatever other milquetoast nonsense appeals to people like my dad.

So, what I'm hearing is that it's a prestige drama for people who don't read thinkpieces about prestige dramas?

I don’t think we can call what Barsanti does “obsessive in-universe continuity”, because that would require him to actually pay attention.

Let me help you out here: never give more of a shit about something than its creators do, or you'll just be frustrated forever.

Calm down, this isn’t Screenrant.

Kathy Griffin would like to have a word with you about the Right’s reaction

NO MORE FKING “BATTLE PASSES.” I’m tired of this crap. Developers aren’t making good games anymore, they’re just making tons of FOMO so they can try to keep the impulse spenders on the hamster wheel for as long as possible.

Also, enough with these stupid “Seasons” with exclusive content that is released all of one

Wring stuff for things you are not familiar with and getting paid for it, this is very unprofessional, let alone venting your personal depression over it.

As a Diablo fan, I thought their show was awesome. The interview with their art designer (an Army brat who now works with his son designing Diablo games—how cool is that???) plus the deep-dive into the new D4 class and D2R were all a lot of fun. I’ll admit I didn’t watch anything else, but isn’t that the beauty of it?

I think it would have been OK to skip writing this article. You’re complaining you didn’t like the opening ceremony while admitting you’re not a blizzard fan. Blizzcon is for Blizzard fans- it’s not really targeted at non-fans.
