Its clearly not that simple and serious choices are likely to be coming about who gets medical care. Personally, I'd prefer to lean towards new life whenever possible, and traditionally, it's not surprising to see older folks be willing to sacrifice for their descendants.

Given the choice I bet almost every grandparent (or potential grandparent) would rather resources go to that new baby joining the family.
