If most people actually showed up at the dealership after making appointments, salespeople would be more serious about them. Nobody's going to miss an up because they were jumping a car that someone may or may not come to look at.

That's an interesting point. I also find speakerphone conversations annoying, but two people talking nearby doesn't bother me. Maybe it's the artificial sound that does it.
