I thought Hickey went down not to repair Young’s coffin but to use that as a ruse in order to steal Young’s ring.

“blackened-thrash” lol

Boy, what a shame. Very sad news. You will be missed. You were the best part of this website, and one of the highlights of the Internet period.

You forgot to mention the Boston Dynamics Dog falling down in the intro segment, which was a burst of absurdist glee. For all of Baron Cohen’s pointed, topical humor, his goofiest material still reigns as his best (i.e. “How come him is wearin’ ’at?” asked of a chicken, etc.).

This piece was anything but “must-read.” It was the worst of the longform articles in this issue, after the terrific profile on Donald Trump Jr. and the essay on being “washed.” This piece was a nonstarter: dull, wheel-spinning, featuring tedious details of Kong and an unlikable bellend who accomplishes nothing. It’s

But the strangeness of this sexless, dreary band’s enduring super-stardom remains a phenomenon worth seeking out.”

This is a good point—this is a band that has never played a sex and/or happy song, and they’re still correctly revered as one of the, if not the, best of the modern era. The phenomenon is that they can

Phil Wang’s whole set is golden. The other seven performers in that special sound roughly alike, speaking in similar ways about similar subjects. Phil Wang is not only the funniest of the batch by far, but also the most unique, with a stage manner like...no one else.

“Loathly Lady”!!!

Boy. I expected more. This is a very well-scripted, well-acted, well-shot film, and one that I did not laugh at once. Many lines had the idea of humor without having any actual humor. Disappointing as it came from one of the funniest humans alive. A passion project to get past and move on to better things.

I count six errors in twelve words:
Thanks, grammar Nazi. Your three-weeks-late post is doing God’s work.”

I watched this last night, and boy oh boy is it unreal. It’s actually unbelievable, and I wouldn’t be surprised it if it turns out to be a meta-exercise, like the “survival reality” show Siberia. It also reminded me of David Wain’s recurring joke of having an entire relationship occur within the space of seconds. For

What I find funny is “apperently” and “the bachelore.”

Boy, if there’s one thing Winter’s Bone didn’t have, it was urgency.

I think it’s more early-to-mid-’90s. They’re playing regular Nintendo and Sony Genesis vidya games, the Derek character is so proud of his CD collection, suggesting that CDs just became mass-marketed and widely available for purchase (to the death of cassettes), and Marty’s fascination with ’80s horror films (which

Oof!

“coordinated campaign” lol

.@JonBaker won this one:

Anthony Lane is a better reviewer than anyone on this site, the venerable Ignatiy and A.A. Dowd included, though they’re close. Lane’s been reliably hilarious for 25 years. He always talks about the frisson of sexual chemistry implied or absent. His recent review of The President Is Missing is a laugh riot. You’ve
