Those ridges are usually hidden. They are often on the part of the lens that hides behind the hood, bumper, or fender. At least it was so on my Mazda and is on my Nissan.

Can confirm. Had an ‘01 to commute to school. Engine locked up, with oil in it, and had gone only a thousand or so miles past the 3000 mile oil change interval. Replaced the engine.
