I like your post. But I am bias as I just bought an 88 Fiero GT. It is slow as molasses bit I love this freaking thing. Gimme 300HP and I would not want another 2 seater ever. I do plan to swap it. Just not the LS or SBC. I want to do the newest version of the engine trans combo that is in it now. A 3.9 Chevy v6 withe

I’ll bite.  I bet that this not only increases sport car sales for GM, but for non-GM and increases the sport car slice of the total automotive sales pie.  There I said it.

Because it is the law of the cosmos that GM finds some way to fuck up an otherwise reasonably solid product

Top Gun came out in 1986 (give or take?). Mid engine corvette speculation I believe was addressed in the book of Genesis, somewhere between “let there be light” and “stop playing in my garden.”

I’m not aware of the same name plate making such a change.  But one could compare something like the Ferrari California to the Ferrari 458 that use similar engines but in different places.  They are supposed to appeal to different buyers though.

I need that window to the engine. I don’t know if that sounds silly, but that is a literally deal breaker for me and the convertible model.

Soory I am not fond of black wheels...

then those ppl should be arrested and their cars impounded. That is some seriously dangerous and reckless activity. Take that to the track. That is the only place for cars like that.

The same people that bought the convertible C7s. And C6s. And C5s. And C4s. And then t-tops on the C3.

This looks significantly better to me somehow.

Don’t assume the ‘Vert is for ‘old/feeble’ owners. Not having to spend 5 mins putting a top on the thing every time you park means that you drive around with no top a hell of a lot more.

I’m just sad that you likely loose the engine porn window with the full-topless version. I’m hoping that the cut for the Targa is

I think that’s the point, maybe. Why does a mid-engined sports car have to be rare and exotic?

I think the Corvette is better looking than the Supra, will outperform it, and will likely drive great, so I think it pretty much murdered that car. The 718 sounds awful, so, at the end of the day, I’d still go used 981/991 or maybe Evora.

So many vibrant 70's colors to choose from, too. The brown looks great, but that orange (nom nom nom!), the blues, the yellows, would do just fine on any Alfa Romeo Montreal, any 70's Maserati, even 70's Porsches and BMW’s. Well done, Chevy.

Because I don’t need 500hp and don’t care about dick measuring with track times. Open top manual driving pleasure.

I’d make mine a 2LT (don’t want/need the extra leather of the 3LT but I do want the vented seats of the 2LT for open top driving on hot days) with the Z51 package & magneride. Elkhart Lake Blue over Sky Cool Gray with the Carbon Flash wheels..

Why wouldn’t they? It’s not like the the C7 is any less bespoke than this is. Outside of the LT1 what does it share with any other GM product? Mid engine isn’t inherently more expensive than front engine. That’s why the $100K speculation has never made a bit of sense to me.

And here I was thinking my generation was the one who couldn’t take a joke!

Yeah, that's not how that works.
