If it is a white male team specifically because they are white males, then it is a gimmick. If it’s all white males because they were the best/richest people for the job, then it’s not a gimmick.

To continue on with this idea, can you imagine a truly competitive female driver/engineer/team manager, one that is truly obsessed with doing what it takes to win, being ok with limiting themselves to a team that can only have one of the sexes on it?
Do you remember that time we all got really excited about that all Male team that reporters went out of their way to feature and uplift as an all male team...?
I gotta be honest I’m not reading much here that indicates to me that the sport “doesn’t want women.” the team and its pro drivers were assessed with much fanfare and have been treated well (with some social growing pains for sure)
Agreed. Gimmick spotlight should be on the team not the sponsor or sanctioning body. Sponsors come and go. Sanctioning bodies allow anyone who can pay a spot on the grid.
Holy shit, a race team folded due to lack of funding. That’s unprecedented.
I don’t know how accurate it is to say they just bailed at the last minute though. My observation (admittedly as someone without firsthand experience running a race team) is that I’d be looking for a commitment as soon as the previous season ended and be preparing for the worst after a month or two max of them not…
By the end of the article, you really get the sense that this motorsport kind of doesn’t want women.
Motorsport also really isn’t the market female product companies, which should be obvious to someone who is thinking clearly, which whoever thought female products would go sponsor-happy obviously wasn’t doing.
The problem is that women are being sold as gimmicks, and they are being sold for their gender rather than their actual talent (cough Danica Patrick cough). If a female driver becomes famous for being an amazing driver, and not a female driver, it would help kill the female racer gimmick.
The idea that women oriented companies would want to sponsor a race team primarily viewed by men was flawed from the start.
A female team isn’t a gimmick entirely, but having a female team because they are female is a gimmick.
I understand the gravity behind the situation, I think. But isn’t fielding an exclusively female team the definition of a gimmick?
Everybody was coal-roll driving
Actual damage to the cars will be minimal. (In most cases just draining and refilling the tank will do it — any contaminated fuel in the fuel injection system will get flushed out pretty quickly.) The biggest expense is probably going to be disposing of the contaminated fuel. This is a more common problem than you’d…
This is 100% a person who pays for blinker fluid top ups during her dealer service.
I fail to see how a used Jetta is a significant step up from that Mercury Lynx.
I feel this article is lacking a bit of detail about this thing. I’d love to know specific powertrain modifications and more importantly the suspension differences that we can see a sneak peak of in a few of those pictures.
Actually, so would I... That gives me an idea. What if there was an HOA for car enthusiast homeowners that would only allow in people who work on cars and love doing burnouts and all that? That might be the most fun neighborhood on the planet.
Shit I’d love to be his neighbor. People in HOA’s don’t know how to party.
