I feel like we are back to the era of the coachbuilder with this generation of modular construction in the VW Group. It is quite incredible that within the last three or so years we have had four wildly different SUVs -from brands within the Group with wildly different mission statements- that are all, fundamentally,

Haha. Really, it’s pretty unintuitive. They get their “inspiration” from Audi’s MMI.

I suppose one could say the deal is

Are your eyes stuttering yet?

The 1992 was the Civic to me, but the 8th generation is by far my favorite. Just a thoroughly pleasant balance of intriguing design and a restraint toward superfluous detail.

I don’t have the personality type to be able to pull off any kind of convertible. But if I were to get a MK1 TT (which I find extremely covetous), I would have to get the Roadster. I don’t even think they look as good as the coupe, but it is the definitive TT to me.

Guberment waist !!! The deficit !!!

Volume knob!

I think the more expensive and refined an SUV, the less able it is to pull off the look. GX definitely looks better with concealed tips.

I think I agree. Cayenne and Bentayga are especially bad in this regard. I do secretly like when an SUV has a single exit exhaust on one side, though. Eg:

Though I think there is a difference between the user maintaining charge, as in an EV, and the ecu maintaining charge, as in a hybrid. The former is probably more likely to introduce behaviors that contribute to early degradation.

I will always admire how utterly pragmatic (and profit oriented) they are in their business decision making. The RC convertible was supposed to be a thing until it quickly became apparent that the coupe was a turkey. We’ve heard nothing on that since. A less dispassionate company would just have made one anyway.

I love whimsy. Retro pastiche, though? I’m not nearly old enough.

I thought that was a grotesque clenched fist there for a second.

Now playing

And Fiona Apple if you need to affirm that beautiful, beautiful niksen.
