that opening silhouette shot was brilliantly done. hat's off to JJ there.

the whole Jakku desert planet part of the movie was great.
watch Fringe for more John Noble, especially season 2 onwards.
shit, i totally forgot Rogue One's plot involves getting the original Death Star's design plans. you can bet there'll be a scene where they discuss an ambitious Mk.III version.
yeah, okay, i guess.
SPOILERS
1) the whole Jakku part of the movie was great. cannot find any fault there.
just read the Thrawn books to scratch that itch.
he mentioned he was in sanitation before being posted to stormtrooper duty, though.
i think you can just go with "meh".
i thought him being a giant would have been cool and warranted him being CG. but turned out that was just some Ultra HD hologram videochat.
2) it does feel very video game-like in its seqeunce layout doesn't it? and now i can't help but think of the scenes with the Final Fantasy malboros as an RPG random encounter.
when C-3PO was going on about his red arm…. "shut up goldenrod!"
Yellow & Green was so good. it's a toss between that and Blue.
there was some good stuff they could have cherry picked from the EU too. but Disney had to be sniffy about it. and decided on a bigger planet-destroying weapon.
the EU had tons of plots with superweapons galore. when Disney threw it all out, they kept the superweapon stuff? sheesh. it was all so rote.
the time spent with those Final Fantasy malboros and the two smuggler groups would have been better used elsewhere. that whole part was inessential.
i guess i can buy Kylo being cocky against them, and being hesitant against Rey since he's unnerved by her Force abilities. but Finn should have been sliced up, at the very least missing a limb. unless the First Order had elective courses in Basic Lightsaber Techniques. (since they have weapons designed to counter…
which bothers me why have that part with the two smuggler groups and the Final Fantasy malboro-esque creatures?
i can maybe buy Rey being able to since she was from the group of Force potentials that Luke was training (though you can argue how much of that training does she actually remember) and Kylo maybe being a bit hesitant against Rey if she really is more powerful than him.
