It’s pretty rare for blood to go to waste, but it has happened - most notably after 9/11 when people all over the place went to donate blood, but due to the nature of 9/11 blood really wasn’t needed (very few victims required blood).

It’s a type of apheresis. Most who talk about doing apheresis are doing platelets. But double reds are basically the same process, just separating out a different blood component.

It’s not even a non-profit issue, it’s a legal issue. All blood banks operating in the US need to follow FDA regulations on blood donations and until recently, the FDA did not allow sexually active gay men to donate. Now a gay man may donate if he hasn’t had sex within the past year and blood banks are still adjusting

Red Cross Blood Services and Disaster Services are separately funded. In fact, Disaster Services tends to be much better funded than Blood Services because the majority of donations and fund raising monies are earmarked to Disaster Services. The money that the Red Cross or any blood bank receives goes to cover costs

That’s not up to the Red Cross or any other blood bank. It’s an FDA regulation and most blood banks have been lobbying the FDA to change the regulation.

I think it’s because they need to make sure your body can handle losing two units of red cells, and typically the bigger you are, the more blood you have. It’s possible height correlates to quantity of blood as well.

I think it’s definitely going to be a decision. If it was going to be 4-4 than why not announce that this past Thursday when they did announced the Immigration 4-4 (and the other case that was 4-4 that slips my mind)?

One of mine loves anything that goes on lips. He comes running as soon as he hears me open a tube of lipstick and I cannot sit down after putting any on or he tries to lick my lips, which, no.

The other thing to be aware of is it generally takes three days from donation for blood to be available to a hospital (both because the blood is separated into red cells, platelets, and plasma and because they need time to test and ensure the blood is safe), so the blood being used today and tomorrow and the next day

I listened on the radio last night. As far as I can remember, Fred & Joe kept it pretty factual. They definitely thought it was intentional, but they didn’t call it bush league or editorialize much. At the end of the game, though, they were speculating about the suspension for Manny and settled on 2-3 games, which,

I think it’s more that a full written report, even if not made public could be used against Baylor in any of the lawsuits you know are coming. They’re covering their fucking asses, not giving a shit about anyone else.

Well shit, you can murder someone in less than 20 minutes. Guess we shouldn’t punish murders for less than 20 minutes of activity.

And because I’m a fucking softy, nothing I stated in my previous comment is actually true. Well, except, have you tasted my young? So tender...

Dude. Are you implying that people are related to gorillas? Like, I would literally prefer to eat one of my own young than be related to a fucking monkey.

This is much too serious a response, sorry.

Anyone know how gorilla tastes?

Why do think the report was given as a presentation to the BOR? There is no written version of the report, which is entirely on purpose.

I’m pretty sure the first time I questioned the death penalty was when a friend’s stepfather killed her mother and sister, leaving my friend to care for her step-siblings. I knew and adored the mother, too.

My take on it is I have no idea in Anderson used steroids or not, but using that one season as evidence is pretty silly. Aberrant seasons like that have always existed. Look at Roger Maris - he only once hit more than 40 homers, in ‘61 when he hit 61. In his whole career he only hit more than 30 three times.

I don’t see how Angelos is a terrible person. A terrible sports owner who appears to have gotten less terrible in recent years, sure. But Angelos and his family have done a lot for Baltimore (much of which they try to keep unpublicized) and his dealings with the media are a hell of a lot better than Snyder’s.
