I haven't found a three way mirror in a dressing room in years! Certainly in mall boutiques anyway. I think it's a tactic so you can't really see how you look from the back. I always carry a purse mirror so I can at least get a glimpse, and it has caused me more than once to say no to something that looked pretty

I have also quit shampoo and I just wanted to add, in case other readers missed the purpose of the brushing, that it carries the oils away from your scalp and distributes it down through the rest of the hair. So it keeps the scalp a bit cleaner, and it conditions the ends. Agree that it takes a while for your hair to

My mother is like this too. I am quite sure she has no idea how negative, bitchy and critical she sounds. It's nervousness, insecurity, and ultimately now it's a habit she cannot break. And when I was in my twenties I TBH was getting that way too, but fortunately I had enough self awareness and sensitivity to others

I buy clothes from all kinds of stores, and they all last for. ever. So long that I get sick of them. I have tee-type shirts from H&M and Zara I've had for five years. Some of my jeans are 10 years old. So even buying 2 new pair a year, I have over 20 pairs. And I am a fairly fussy person, I don't like pilling, or

But then it probably wouldn't mean much to university admissions, so I guess it's okay.

I did that when I was in high school, mostly perfume and nail ads from vogue. Unfortunately I used regular glue to. Paste them to painted walls, and then I moved out without taking them down. My poor mom!

I know! I'm not saying I believe in it. First of all, stopping food is most likely going to make your organs work harder, and second of all, if you're on a juice fast you're ingesting a lot of sugar, which also takes work to process. I'm just so tired of hearing about fasts that I blocked out the whole theory some

So toxins have a biological source, and non biological toxic materials would be considered contaminants or something. So the idea is that food intake produces toxic byproducts which are normally expelled by your organs. But if your organs aren't functioning well, you withhold food to give them a "rest." Yes, it's all

Oh, someone who can define a toxin. Let us know, please.

But unfortunately the most worrying toxins, like lead and metals and PCBs, get stored in your bones or your body fat. Not that a juice cleanse can even get a "toxin" out of your bloodstream, but it sure as hell can't get it out of your bones. The whole thing...

I totally have this problem! But most especially with movies and TV, though I have also fallen asleep during operas and even pop concerts if i'm sitting down. Not so much during speakers or classes. It is something about watching moving images and flashing lights, it's like it shuts down part of my brain almost

I've wondered this too, but I think it's just the human tendency to fixate on things that seem under your control, and ignore those that you feel helpless about. It's much easier to sneer at a smoker than to think about how you can reduce the load of toxic airborne waste we breathe in every other moment of the day.

I am just commenting here to find out if I,ve been approved yet.....

I too was pretty clueless, but when the time came I had no problem figuring it out. But I also wasn't worried. If its something that makes you anxious and intimidated as a child I think that can hinder your confidence and ability when you need it. I have mixed feelings about making kids too money conscious.

And don't you know that those flowers you put on the memorial site were probably grown in Venezuela by people making a dollar an hour, and sprayed with pesticides, and flown here by jets emitting tons of carbon? What's wrong with you?

I have been commenting for years and even used to have a star, and now my comments are pending! Not fair. Also I hate the fade. Why not let us at least read two columns at once?

well, post-surgery Janet, of course.

A lot of the "i can't believe you're that old" stuff, especially from younger people, has to do with preconceptions. I remember when I turned 40, that word had power. All through my 30s, people in their mid 20s thru 30s wouldn't bat an eye when I said I was 35, 37, even 39. As long as there was a "30" in there, it was

I love your comment. I'm in my late 40s, and while my life wasn't as dramatic as yours sounds, I spent the 80s as an art-school punk, the 90s dating musicians, and the 2000s finally sort of actually developing a career in communications/media, which means I need to keep up with pop culture and social culture. And I

Can I bitch about the elite-fitness mentality for a minute? Somehow (okay, I'm getting paid) I have agreed to help a family member who's gotten into uber-fitness (competitions, selling MLM protein products, 4 hours a day at the gym) put together some materials for her new self-help/weight-loss inspiration info package
