My college biology teacher did an entire presentation on the critters and other parasites in meat and why it should ALWAYS be Well Done and never rare. There are reasons people like their steak differently and it has nothing to do with age.
It is not arcane but a well thought out system to ensure that those in the less densely populated states are not always constantly screwed over.
How petty of this author to judge a person based on their taste buds. He's 70 years old and eaten the finest around the world. He has every right to know how he likes his steak. This bit of "news reporting" is what is childish.
