I say Lifehacker should do a piece on debunking the myths of book pricing. How much really goes to the author, publisher, contractors, distribution, and materials.

Honestly if this is a family members pc or someone who is a pc notice then sure, but if you are trying to get good speeds from your box then this is just silly. Live file scanning is a pain on its own but when you double/triple/quadruple/quintuple/etc it then you are just eating up processor ticks for no reason.

Wanna get rid of most piracy? Make prices reasonable and provide users with non-DRM'd copies that they can use how they see fit, on any device. Additionally getting up to speed with the technologies of the day, i.e. Netflix, without trying to flood the users with commercials, i.e. Hulu.

That url will not work, maybe due to the parentesis. Use this one: [goo.gl]

Check out if your router supports DD-WRT, if it does then head on over to their site. Here is a great little doc about doing just what you are wanting to do.

I have never seen one that did, but then again I still have an old WRT-54G alive and kicking so no need to upgrade. =)

I think you are really missing the point, heat is heat and everything has an ignition temp. The desk itself may not be the initial spark, imagine all the things that can lie around that area or get caught between drawers.

Great advise and I have a similar setup here using DD-WRT and an old Linksys N300 router. One thing to note is if you have a web/ftp/etc server or what not that you operate from home, make sure to build out iptables rules that allow for that cross communication.

I would think tray loaded, at least in this orientation, would be a pain. Especially since it would require two hands to do, unless it is a motorized tray but then again that would be just as prone to failure.

That is what I said, not to mention the tray loaded disc drive. Would slot not have been so much better?

Hah, I have seen Palm V's catch on fire sitting on their cradle and take a desk with it, so I would not be surprised!

Actually I don't normally have a delay to speak of while using it. Not to mention if you couple it with a service like sipsorcery and localphone, you can have your own number and unlimited calling for $1/month (You will actually have two numbers, your localphone one and the google voice one). Best of all it gives you

Yea I have been using my own dns for quite some time, what can I say I love keywords! Not having to type DOT whatever is also nice. To go to lifehacker I just type "lifehacker", to goto google I type "google", etc.

Well what a company says and does are two different things. My real worry is if this does pass (I don't think it will), will this be an end point or just a start to the filtering of the internet. The bill in question may not block by IP, but if circumvention techniques become plentiful then the likelihood of followup

Very true and I don't think proxies are really in danger (nor do I think this bill will pass). However if it does, then the reaches of the law may be a little longer than we all expected. If they can kill traffic to particular domains then killing access to offending proxies is not all that far fetched. They would

Assuming they don't start blocking the proxies you use of course =P

It would be a pain for them to limit by the IP address as they can change (though not very often). If one were to change, they could be blocking a known good site and that would not go over well as the new IP owner would have to go through proper channels to get it resolved.

@skim32 As ChaosEh said, it is a little more complex but there is still hope. If the US goes on with this, you could always look into a proxy/vpn solution. For those that are a little more tech inclined, a nice dd-wrt capable router will allow you to run your own DNS server and avoid the issue entirely!

Good to hear!

Could you give me the version so I can install it and try, I have it working on version 16 and 17. As mentioned you do have Tampermonkey installed and it is showing googlebar+ installed correct?
