I think Nintendo's goal with their new Nintendo Network is that they will eventually link every console and piece of hardware they make from now on will be linked in to the Nintendo Network, so you can safely assume we'll be getting global accounts for all our purchases.

Yeah, people don't seem to remember that consoles cost quite a lot when they're first launched, there's no shortcuts you can take when all is said and done. New technology will cost, and if you dump the price you will suffer for every sale.
