Your description of the two types of US travellers is spot on. Having tons of family and connection to the UK, I would say that the worst international travelers come from there. Their only priority is to go somewhere sunny, and they expect it to be setup exactly like the UK, and then they proceed to get belligerently…

I also went to a co-ed boarding school in the early 1970s. I have dozens of friends from school that I stay happily up-to-date with. Even after almost 50 years. Not boring at all. Friends For Life is nothing to sneer at.

I know these stories are usually fraught with weirdness..but I went to a wonderful co-ed boarding school in the sixties and early 70's.

I haven’t gone to any of my high school reunions, because I’m not a glutton for that type of punishment. I did hear through the grape vine that the 10 year one was essentially just ‘divorced, disheveled, destitute’ repeat. With some ‘she had five kids with three different people’ thrown in.

Wait ... people actually go to those things ??? I’m grateful for the education I received in school but I am not paying money to hang out with any of my former classmates. 

Did she come from a pretty conservative family background? There’s always a few folks who go back into that after a more progressive period in their twenties, especially if they get into a conservative branch of religion that feels like home because of their childhood, or have some kind of personal crisis.
