See, I didn’t feel like Oliva’s emotional struggle was about the abortion directly. I think it was more about the fact that getting pregnant forced her to make a final decision about the direction of her relationship with Fitz.

To be fair Joan didn’t go through with it because her doctor basically told her that having a 3rd abortion would ruin her chances of ever getting pregnant.
This is apparently one of the biggest mistakes that white parents make. We think that the right thing to do is sort of pretend like it doesn’t exist but as you said pretending it away doesn’t solve anything. I’m trying to do my best to talk to my kids about it (we had a little primer on the Civil Rights Movement…
Idk if this has been shown to help people currently dealing with depression but if you have a history of depression you can get an estrogen patch right after you deliver. It helps level out the hormones so you don’t get that huge drop and reduces the rate of PPD.
I was super excited to get called in a few years ago and then the case was related to a car accident. Since my mother was in a serious car accident and almost died it was not shocking that I was dismissed. Maybe next time.
I don’t know about late talking running in families but you’re right that kids raised in bilingual households frequently do talk later. It was more the delayed crawling/walking in combo with the gagging on food that made me think he might have sensory issues and/or hypotonia. I would just caution you that…
They’re not really spoons (they’re flat and the same on both sides) so as long as the yogurt is thick enough (we mix greek yogurt with cereal) all the kid has to do is stick the end into the food.
You may be right and he’s just on his own schedule but everything you’ve mentioned is throwing up some yellow flags for me, especially when taken together. I say this as a former special educator and a mom who listened to the “every kid is different” mantra (against my own gut feeling) and now really wishes she’d…
I just discovered these baby spoons called “Num Num Dips” (available at amazon and other fine retailers) the other day for exactly that problem. My son hit 10 months yesterday and he can now eat yogurt mixed with baby cereal by himself. I usually hold the bowl so that he doesn’t stick his other hand in it and make a…
First off, from a nutritional standpoint babies don’t need anything besides breastmilk or formula before the age of one. Secondly, all the things you’re talking about (sitting up, being able to pick up food and put it in their mouths, being able to chew) are the signs that a baby is ready to start eating something…
That’s not normal. All kids are different of course but babies should be able to tolerate more than a puree before the age of 1. If your kid is still having issues with feeding/swallowing I strongly suggest a consultation with an occupational therapist. (Did you tell your doctor and they didn’t say anything?)
We do baby led weaning. I do think it’s better for the baby but it’s also easier and cheaper than baby food. For example every day for breakfast I cook an omelette for my sons; my 6 year old eats half and the 10 month old eats the other half (sometimes he doesn’t finish it until lunch). All I have to do is cut it up…
It’s only futile if you think his goal is actually to win. It’s pretty clear to me that his goal is really to get attention and since this gets him more attention it’s not in fact futile.
Idk, I actually think this is a smart move for him. He’s getting a lot more coverage this way than by going to the actual debate. He’s still not going to win or anything but surely he knows that already.
Just letting you know I’m totally stealing that.
Either. More likely a seizure but could have been a stroke depending on what part of the brain it was in.
I really give them the side eye because if I can walk the extra 50 feet carrying a baby and holding the hand of a wiggly 4 year old they should certainly be able to do it.
I did have to laugh at your description of yourself as a “horrible new year’s going to the gym person” because an actual conversation I had with my…
I get that. I’ve definitely gotten the “You Walked!?” reaction for completely ridiculous reasons. We deliberately bought a house within easy (like 10-15 min) walking distance of lots of things and no one should be surprised at a healthy adult walking less than a mile.
I used to ride everywhere when I was a tween/teen. My littles are still learning but I hope that when they’re a little older we can go riding as a family like I did as a kid.
I prefer to run outside in most weather (my asthma acts up in some colder weather) but I go to the gym because I have little kids and the gym has child care. That being said I do laugh at the people driving circles in the lot to try to get a spot close to the door.
